Dental Veneers

Rendering of jaw with porcelain veneer on toothBe brutally honest with yourself: how does your smile make you feel about yourself? If your answer is anything less than “wonderful!” then perhaps you may be a good candidate for dental veneers. Dental veneers are a great option for many of our patients, greatly improving the appearance of your smile without needing to resort to more invasive procedures. If you are struggling with the shame and embarrassment of stained teeth, uneven gaps and spaces between your teeth, chips, and even worn-down dental enamel, then we here at Gregory A. Williams, DMD, PC would love to discuss with you the many benefits of dental veneers.

How Dental Veneers Can Improve Your Smile

When considering treatment options for your cosmetic dental concerns, a one-size-fits-all approach will not do. Dental veneers are fantastic for patients who do not want a generic fix for their teeth, as each set of dental veneers is custom made and shaped to the individual patient’s teeth. Made up of an extremely thin sheet of porcelain, dental veneers are designed to fit your mouth perfectly to conceal your teeth. This can not only be a big improvement to your smile; it can be an instant confidence boost, too!

The advantages of dental veneers are numerous. They can help improve a wide variety of dental complaints, giving you lasting results in just a couple of appointments. They are strong and long-lasting, and they are also resistant to staining. They look and feel just like your natural teeth. Furthermore, while dental veneers do require a small amount of your dental enamel to be removed, the amount that we will remove is significantly less than the amount we would have to remove for a crown.

How It Works

Getting a dental veneer can be completed in just two appointments. We will first start by thoroughly cleaning your teeth to prepare them for the veneers. Next, we will provide you with local anesthesia, though, please know that it is not always necessary. We like to offer it to our patients who do report having sensitive teeth. We will then compare the color of your existing teeth and work with you to choose the perfect color for your veneer. Once we are confident that you will be satisfied with the look of your new veneer, we will then very gently and carefully remove a small amount of dental enamel to prep the site for the veneer.

The next step in making your dental veneer will be casting the mold for it. We will start this step by taking an impression of your teeth. This impression will go to our lab, who will then begin the manufacturing of your veneer. In the meanwhile, we will fit you with a temporary veneer. Your permanent veneer may take up to two weeks to return from our lab, but once it arrives, we will again clean your teeth to finalize your fit. The veneer will also be etched to help ensure that it fits securely against your teeth. Once we are happy with the fit, we will then attach the dental veneer to your teeth using dental cement. This will then be cured for a minute with a special ultraviolet light.
