Teeth Whitening![]() How Do Teeth Become Discolored? There are several factors that can contribute to tooth discoloration:
Can't I Buy Products at the Store? There are numerous whitening products available at stores all over. Whitening toothpaste contains abrasives that scrub away at surface stains. Other products, such as whitening strips, gels, and pens, contain very low levels of bleaching agents. Chairside WhiteningAt Gregory A. Williams, DMD, PC, we offer two types of professional whitening. Our first option is offered in our office. It is a procedure known as chairside whitening. We start by applying a gel on your gums, which acts as a protective barrier. We then apply the bleaching agent, which contains either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. We then shine a light over your mouth, which activates the active ingredients, enhancing their effects. In an hour, your teeth will be noticeably several shades whiter. Take Home TraysIf you don’t want to have your teeth whitened in the office, we also offer take-home trays. With this option, we provide you with custom fit trays and a bleaching agent. You whiten your teeth at home, on your own time. The trays are designed to be worn for 1 hour a day for a specified number of days. Results are typically visible within a week. How Do I Keep My Teeth White? While professional whitening is effective, it is not permanent. There are things you can do, however, to ensure that the results last as long as possible:
