How often should I schedule exams and cleanings?

Dr. Williams recommends that patients schedule dental exams, x-rays, and cleaning roughly once every six months, or twice a year. Patients who have certain underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or who are pregnant may need to schedule exams more frequently as the current state of their oral health dictates.

Regular exams allow Dr. Williams the opportunity to spot the signs of dental decay and disease early on while these types of conditions are still easily treatable. Frequent cleanings allow our team of gentle dental hygienists the opportunity of remove plaque deposits from the surface of your teeth and along the gum line before they contribute to the development of gum disease and cavities.

Regular exams and cleanings remain an important part in protecting your long-term oral health.

How safe are dental x-rays?

Whether from the sun, soil, or appliance in our homes, exposure to radiation should never be taken lightly. Fortunately, advances in the field of dentistry have successfully lowered radiation exposure from X-rays to an almost miniscule amount. From X-rays that target a very small and specific area of the face to higher X-ray film speeds that require shorter exposure times, the amount of radiation patients are exposed to during dental X-rays pose no significant health risk.
